When you first wake up
Just for a moment
There is no revolution
No killing and slapping and gassing
Everything is quiet, had never existed
Black blank
It is not cold and dewy on the windows
And you are fine
There are no bleeding eyes
Someone is playing the piano softly next to you
Like they do every morning
I was dreaming about nonsense things that never happened with my family, flying a plane, or would we not fly, to take my cousin to get a haircut?
Then I opened my eyes again
—On sleeping, or trying to these days. For the pain, feelings of helplessness. For #Iran and #Iranians everywhere. For #Ukraine and #Ukrainians everywhere. Will it be #Taiwan next? For #Uvalde and #Thailand, where dozens of children were shot by lone gunmen earlier this year. For living in a time when protesting against the senseless murder of kids shouldn’t still have to be such a revolutionary act. My heart is broken with you.
